Craig Mastrangelo

Craig Mastrangelo

Program Founder

Craig founded the Friends & Fitness Half Marathon Training Program in 1996 in an effort to help others get in shape and achieve the goal of running 13.1 miles. Since its inception, hundreds of runners have completed their first half-marathons, with many returning each summer to train with the Friends & Fitness runners!

In 2009, the Friends & Fitness Half Marathon Training Program began raising money for the Race for Hope DC- in loving memory of Christopher Michael Mastrangelo, who passed away from brain cancer in November 2007 after a very brief illness. This year’s goal is $15,000 with monies being raised thru donations and a Brain Cancer Silent Auction that is held every April, with items kindly donated by local families and businesses.

Craig lives in Arlington with his  two children. Craig has run in 20+ half-marathons since the program’s inception, along with the Marine Corps Marathon and a number of local 10k and 5k races.

Craig is a Realtor who joined RE/MAX Allegiance and The Neighborhood Home Team in 2000. As a top producing Realtor specializing in the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC markets, he has proven time and again that he can provide a comprehensive level of service to buyers and sellers in the new and resale home markets. His professional achievements include: Northern Virginia Multi-Million Dollar Sales Club, Top Producer; RE/MAX 100% Sales Club; RE/MAX Hall of Fame.

Katrina Brubaker

Katrina Brubaker

Coach

Katrina is alum of the past five Friends and Fitness Running programs. In 2010, she became a coach and began assisting in all facets of the program, most notably by adding our Monday morning strength training workouts.

Katrina has been an avid runner for 15 years. She has completed 12 full marathons, 13 half marathons, 8 ten milers, several Ragnar Relays, 2 sprint triathlons, and a half ironman. All of her extensive fitness training allows Katrina to bring with her all a wealth of knowledge she eagerly passes onto program participants.

A wife and mother of two, Katrina will receive physical training certification over the summer to coach runners and fitness enthusiasts alike full-time.

Jessica Palmer Kramer

Jessica Palmer Kramer

Coach

Jessica is an RRCA-certified running coach and has been participating in the Friends & Fitness running program since 2008. A sprint-sport athlete in high school, she began running in college because it was cheap and you could do it anywhere. Although she?d been running for a decade and a half before she started the Friends & Fitness program, she?s never run further than 5 miles. Friends & Fitness gave her the bug, and she has now completed four marathons, a dozen half marathons, several Ragnar Relays, and various shorter races.

Jessica lives in Washington, DC, with her husband and two sons.

Bruce McKenzie

Bruce McKenzie

Coach

Bruce is the father figure of the Friends & Fitness program. That could be because of his unique haircut, or the fact that he’s retired from the 9-to-5 grind, or that he’s been running since 1984. He’s been training and helping with Friends since 2004, and in addition to running a couple of half-marathons each year he has survived several marathons as well. He cannot, however, claim to have endured the infamous 2011 Hot Chocolate 15K!

Bruce will admit he is not known for his speed; his strength lies in providing pragmatic advice to novice runners who are facing their first long-distance challenge. He has two daughters who also run with the Friends & Fitness Program.

When Bruce isn?t running, he’s coaching softball at The Potomac School in McLean, or you can find him scouring Sur La Table or Williams-Sonoma for the latest cooking gadgets.
